Minister says we should celebrate ageing population

The Policy and Reform Minister has said the Island's ageing population should be celebrated.

Minister John Shimmin addressed Tynwald this week on the topic of population policy; he said it's time government focused on the benefits that come with people living longer, instead of just the challenges.

Concern has been raised in the past that an increasing ageing population will put severe strain on housing, pensions and health care provision.

He said work is ongoing to ensure the right policy framework is in place which will allow people to grow old living healthy independent lives, where they are able to contribute to society.
