How can you make the workplace an attractive prospect to those making more money claiming benefits?
The question was debated in Tynwald this week with pressure put on the Treasury Minister to introduce an allowance to help with housing and travel costs for those on low income.
Treasury Minister Teare pointed out that a weeks work on minimum wage would earn an individual £37 more than if they were claiming benefits.
Onchan MHK Peter Karran was quick to point out however that this was not taking into consideration the high price of rental costs for anyone seeking independence.
Mr Karran was invited to resubmit Liberal Vannin proposals for a solution to the problem:
