Another £10,000 fine for illegal scallop fishing

The skipper of a local scallop vessel has become the latest fisherman to fall foul of the strict guidelines in place limiting fishing.

The boat 'Alena' was deemed to be fishing inside a closed off area south of Chicken Rock.

The vessel was detained in Port St Mary where it was found to have 21 bags of scallops on board.

The skipper Girts Prizevs appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff last week where he was fined £10,000, and ordered that the £1,550 catch be forfeited.
