Motorists who haven't paid car tax will soon be caught out by automatic number plate recognition.
Approved by Tynwald this week - the move is a joint investment between police and the Department for Infrastructure, who will benefit financially from any imposed fines.
Approximately three per cent of vehicles driving on the roads and up to six per cent of vehicles parked don't have valid tax.
The new system will scan vehicle registration plates as they drive past and check it against a database.
