Mixed Leagues

League 1

Citywing Vikings A 4 CuPlas Callow St Ninians A 14

A full strength St Ninians team are always going to be a force to be reckoned with and this match was no exception.  Vikings started off well with a good win for Emma Nicholson and Charlotte Dougherty 21/17 21/8 over Alex Domingo and Sarah Corlett at second womens.  Second mens saw St Ninians Avi Chandarana and Gregg Harrison take the first game 21/19 against Steve Allen and Sam Mills, before the Vikings pair hit back to take the second game 21/16 with the St Ninians pair getting the better in the third game 21/15.  First mens saw Neil Harding and Matthew Wilkinson of St Ninians reverse the score of their previous match beating Matthew Nicholson and Steven Quayle 21/18 21/15.  First womens saw unbeaten combination Nicola Wilkinson and Sue Domingo pushed by Vikings Yvonne Irvine and Sam Murphy but they did enough to take the win 21/16 21/18.  Fourth mixed was another three gamer with St Ninians Harrison and Alex Domingo taking the first 21/17 against Mills and Dougherty before the young Vikings pair took the second 21/10. The third game was close with the St Ninians pairing taking it 21/17.  St Ninians won the remaining mixed in two straight games to give them a solid 14/4 win. SN

What a great start to the New Year. A really enjoyable evening of good games mingled with friendly banter and a delicious supper – thanks Sulby team. Some matches went to three but those that didn’t were very close with just a point here and there, as reflected in second womens with Sulby’s Louise Strickett and Sarah Clarke closely losing to Selborne’s Carol Kelly and Anita Griffiths 17/21 21/19 19/21.  Second mens saw Sulby’s pairing of Andrew Simpson and George Li winning 21/19 21/19 against Neil McMullen and Ray McMullen. At third mixed Strickett and Li lost 18/21 21/23 to Selborne’s Kelly and Neil McMullen. The final score came down to the last match of the night at first mixed. It was equal points at one game all but in the end Sulby’s Jenny Mo and Simon Clarke losing by just two points to Selborne’s Susie Stewart and Roy Wilson, 21/12 12/21 19/21. PLS
