Fine and ban for man who drove whilst unfit

Mon, 22 Dec 2014

An Onchan man has been disqualified from driving for three years for crashing his scooter after taking prescription medication.

41-year-old Glen Anderson appeared at Douglas Courthouse last week where he pleaded guilty to one charge of driving whilst unfit.

Police were called after he crashed into the back of a car on Douglas Promenade on September 4th.

Officers formed the opinion he was intoxicated on something other than alcohol and Anderson admitted he'd taken Diazepam.

His advocate said Anderson's medication had been altered three days prior to the collision which had caused him to become impaired - he said it was a "genuine mistake" but one that shouldn't have happened.

Anderson was fined £300, ordered to pay £231 in costs and disqualified from driving until he has taken an extended driving test.
