Bridge strengthening works to cause delays

Motorists who use the Old Castletown Road will have to allow for longer journey times throughout January.

Road works will start on Tuesday the 6th to strengthen the Blackboards Bridge.

Traffic lights will be in operation full time for three weeks whilst infrastructure staff install 11 steel beams beneath the bridge to ensure the structure's longevity.

Construction manager Gary Saunders says these old bridges were not intended to take such volumes of traffic:
