Mixed Leagues

League 1

Doehle Corporate Selborne A 7 Citywing Vikings A 10

Selborne welcomed Alex Lambie to their mixed team for the first time this season and he was quick to leave a mark when with Alan Ferguson they beat the previously unbeaten partnership of Sam Mills and Steve Allen 21/15 21/16 at second mens.  Vikings hit back by winning second womens courtesy of Charlotte Dougherty and Kirstina Buck 21/17 21/15 and first mens by Matthew Nicholson and Steve Quayle 21/12  21/8.  First womens was a ding dong affair with Selborne’s Julie Thomas and Joyce Hall edging it 22/20 25/23 against Emma Nicholson and Sam Murphy.  Fourth mixed was a very close match with Selborne’s Ferguson and Sara Davidson wining 22/20 21/19.  Vikings hit back with comfortable wins at third mixed for Allen and Dougherty and at second mixed for Quayle and Murphy.  First mixed was the only game of the night to go to three with Selborne’s Stuart Foley and Hall winning the first game 21/18 before Matthew Nicholson and Emma Nicholson took the next two 21/18 22/20 to give Vikings a 10/7 win. A great match for St Ninians adding another 14 league points with a 14-5 win.  Three particular matches were extremely close. First womens, third and first mixed which St Ninians fought extremely hard and triumphed winning in three in each.  The biggest battle was between the St Ninians husband and wife team of Mike and Allison Harrison against Northerners Simon Clarke and Jenny Mo.  A great game to watch with fabulous entertainment, played with goodwill but yet very competitive!  Mike and Simon had many great rallies but the St Ninians pairing took the final game winning 21/18 19/21  21/17 . League 4

Citywing Vikings C 14 Doehle Corporate Selborne C 6

A good win for Vikings but there were some very close games with four matches going to three games. It could easily have been a draw! Vikings second mens Roy McLean and Jamie Joughin against Selborne’s Sid McKnight and Raymond Gawne found it difficult to score in the first game but pulled themselves together and won 11/21 21/19 21/9. Vikings second womens Melissa McKnight and Sam Spellman had a good win over Selborne’s Sue Young and Sue Richardson 21/15 21/12. Vikings first mens Neil Gibb and Alex Buck beat Selborne’s Ray McMullen and Nigel Kane  21/19 21/15. Vikings first womens Csilla Buck and Georgia Foxton won 21/15 22/20 against Gill Young and Felicia Gawne. At fourth mixed Vikings McLean and McKnight beat Raymond Gawne and Richardson 13/21 21/18 21/18 and were lucky to do so due Sue Richardson being a little slower than usual around the court due to a fall in her ladies match. Third mixed Vikings Joughin and Spellman won 19/21 21/18 24/22 against McKnight and Sue Young. At second mixed Vikings Alex Buck and Foxton beat Kane/Felicia Gawne 18/21 21/19 21/19. At first mixed Selborne’s McMullen and Gill Young beat Gibb and Csilla Buck 21/18 21/15.  RM
