More restrictions for young drivers on the horizon

New measures could be introduced to improve the safety of young motorists.

It's after a number of high-profile tragedies this year - statistics show a disproportionate number of inexperienced drivers are killed or seriously injured in the British Isles.

The Department of Infrastructure wants the public's feedback on whether or not to refine laws placed on 'R' plate drivers.

Considerations include raising the driving test age to 17, extending the use of the restricted plates and introducing devices to alert the police to speeding or dangerous driving.

Minister Phil Gawne says people's feedback will dictate whether or not the changes are needed:
