Highs and Lows for Creevy in Granada, Spain.
On Sunday morning September14th, Harry Creevy was competing as a member of the Great Britain 300 metre team in 51st ISSF World Championship prone event in Granada, Spain. In the elimination round 2, Creevy posted a magnificent result of 99. 99. 98. 99. 99. 99 = 593 x 600 with 29x bulls from a field of 52 shooters, placing him in eighteenth position for the following days final. Harry’s 593 was the highest score of the three man British team, with Simon Aldhouse posting 96, 98, 97, 98, 99, 97 = 585 - 26x and regular Easter Shoot competitor, Tony Lincoln with 96, 97, 95, 98, 98, 99 = 583 – 23x. Monday morning saw Creevy slip a little with a score of 98, 97, 97, 100, 96, 98 = 586 – 25x, placing him in twenty fifth. This may appear to be a disappointing result but in such an International field where the winner dropped just a single shot and second and third dropped just 2, Creevy’s result is quite remarkable.
In the team event the three British marksmen managed to finish in eleventh from a field of sixteen.

Locals continue excellent results in the Ulster Summer Postal Leagues Round nine
Last week I gave you the results for round 8 of the Ulster Counties Summer Postal League and I am now in a position to give the results of the penultimate round 9. A couple of changes in the local positions show up where Tracey Skelton has swapped position with Richie Arthur and in the same Division, Illiam Christian and Andy Traynor do likewise. As usual I will list the Division, the shooters name followed by their Division position –
Division 1 – Mike Duncalf   2nd     Tom Lord    6th
Division 2 – Bill Jones              1st
Division 3 - Andy Potter       2nd     Nick Brown 6th
Division 4 – Martin Burns    1st     Suzanne McKnight 3rd
Division 5 – Richie Arthur    1st     Tracey Skelton 2nd     Illiam Christian  4th     Andy Traynor 5th
Division 6 – Mike Clague      1st     Perryn Callister 7th     Tony Kneale      8th
Division 7 – Steve Callus      2nd     Liz Jones        5th
Division 9 – Alex Trafford    3rd
Division 10 – Thomas Clague 1st and cannot be beaten.

In the team event, success is guaranteed by the Isle of Man ‘A’ team of Mike Duncalf, Tom Lord and Bill Jones in Division A, now leading by 5 points from another strong team of Ulster Rifle Association ‘A’. Division B sees Isle of Man ‘C’, the team of Suzanne McKnight, Richie Arthur and Tracey Skelton maintaining pole position by 3 clear points from Isle of Man ‘B’, the team of Andy Potter, Nick Brown and Martin Burns. In Division C, The Isle of Man ‘E’ team of Mike Clague, Tony Kneale and Liz Jones, are now in second slot with Isle of Man ‘D’, Andy Traynor, Illiam Christian and Perryn Callister dropping to fourth. Finally, in Division D the Isle of Man ‘F’ team of Steve Callus, Alex Trafford and Thomas Clague are in first position with a lead of 8 points and cannot be beaten. Unfortunately, once again, the junior section results were not included and will no doubt, follow in the next week or so however I am aware that our three fifteen year old juniors Illiam Christian, Alex Trafford and Thomas Clague, also hold excellent positions in that event too. I am sure the local results this year’s excellent competition, are the best for many years and we eagerly await the tenth and final round results to see exactly where each of our shooters finish in their respective League.

Dates for your Diaries

The indoor range at Sinclair has now been converted to indoor use for teams to start training for the IoM Rifle Association Winter League but as usual, the 50 metre range is still available for outdoor training and the IoMSC monthly handicap matches.
The Isle of Man Rifle Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held at 7.50 pm this evening for an 8 pm start at Sinclair Range. Please also note that an extended fixture list for the Winter Indoor League, which involves shooting against each of the other clubs 3 times per season rather than twice as previously, will be proposed at the AGM. The Executive Committee has recommended that the new format be approved and implemented at the AGM for the forthcoming 2014/15 season.
I have been asked to mention that Sulby and District Rifle Club are holding their Annual General Meeting on Friday 26th September 2014 at 8pm in the Range.

I understand that two well - known shooters are recuperating after serious surgery and I know that the rifle community would like to wish Sulby’s John Cottier and Isle of Man Rifle Association Treasurer, Lorrie Thompson a speedy recovery.
