Douglas Council says it has a "zero-tolerance" approach to advertising boards - but will wait three years to stamp them out.
From June 30th 2017 the council is banning the A-boards saying it's become increasingly concerned about the number of them in the town centre.
It says many are positioned indiscriminately on the highways causing a potential hazard - particularly to the visually impaired or people with limited mobility.
Cleaning teams also find it difficult to clean the streets in the main shopping area.
The council says whilst it acknowledges trading conditions remain challenging it wants Douglas to be a visually appealing, uncluttered environment.
