Wrongly claiming almost £6,000 in benefits has cost an Onchan woman 120 hours of her time.
33-year-old Kerry Moore pleaded guilty to two charges of making false representation to obtain benefits over a six month period between October and April this year.
Yesterday at Douglas Courthouse she was sentenced to carry out the unpaid community service over the next 12 months as well as repaying the debt.
The court heard how she hadn't deliberately set out to make a false claim and that it was due to a change in living circumstances - however she admitted she should have told Social Security.
Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes says it is a serious issue as she had taken the 'hard earned money' from taxpayers on the Island for her own benefit.
