Rifle Shooting Report

Tue, 02 Sep 2014

Monday evening appeared to be a washout for the thirteen shooters who managed to compete in the season’s final rounds of The Osborn Carpets Scratch match, The Empire Garage Tynwald Shield Handicap and the Sadler Junior Championship. Range Officer Brian Fozard decided to start the match a little earlier than normal due to failing light and no sooner had the first shots been fired, the heavens opened which made the lack of light even more severe. Junior shooter, Ben Kelly however, posted a very creditable gun score of 581 x 600, 2 points ahead of Harry Creevy on 579 and Richie Arthur a little further in arrears on 576.

Kelly makes it a double with the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield Handicap

Ben Kelly’s scratch score on Monday, when added to his handicap in the Empire Garage Tynwald Shield, gave him his second win of the evening. Just 12 shooters were involved in this match and even when the handicaps was applied, for the first time this year, no one managed to shoot to their allocated handicap, once again, this was down to the incredibly difficult weather conditions. Full results were:-

1 – Ben Kelly               581 + 17 = 598,

2 – Richard Arthur      576 + 18 = 594,

3 – Andy Potter           575 + 15 = 590,

4 – Tom Lord               566 + 24 = 590,

5 – Perryn Callister     555 + 35 = 590,

6 – Tony Kneale          557 + 30 = 587,

7 – Illiam Christian     558 + 29 = 587,

8 – Steve Callus           551 + 35 = 586,

9 – Suzanne McKnight 560 + 25 = 585,

10 – Andy Traynor      560 + 23 = 583,

11 – Nick Brown          550 + 32 = 582,

12 – Mike Clague        562 + 15 = 577.

The final round of The Sadler Junior Championship gives Kelly his third win of the night

Ben Kelly rounded off the Monday night’s matches with a third match win in the Sadler Junior Championship when he produced 98, 97, 97 = 292 x 300 from second shooter, Illiam Christian on 95, 92, 92 = 279.

The programme of matches for 2014 at Sinclair, seem to have flown by this year and as this week’s matches completes the summer outdoor season, I hope to bring you the final aggregated positions for each shooter in the 3 weekly matches that have been shot over the last 18 weeks in the near future.
