Capability Assessment will reduce long term benefit claimant numbers

It's hoped the reintroduction of face to face assessment will shake up the Island's long term benefit system.

Personal capability assessments will now determine if someone claiming long term incapacity benefit could be better served earning their money through employment.

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare claims this is not a money saving measure but geared toward enhancing the lives of the claimant.

We asked Minister Teare if his department were concerned that people had been abusing the system:
