The Steam Packet has now shed some light on the issue that's kept the Manannan docked in Liverpool unable to travel.
They suspect it's an engine electrical control system issue which prevented one of the engines from starting.
Specialist engineers are currently in Liverpool with the boat, trying to find and fix the fault.
As a result of the technical fault the Belfast sailings for today have been cancelled and will be amalgamated with tomorrow's Dublin crossing.
Assuming the fault can be fixed the Manannan will leave Liverpool at 12pm today and then carry on as normal.
Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward has apologised to all affected and says as passenger safety is their first priority the Manannan will not sail until they are satisfied the issue has been properly rectified.
