Experts step up fight against phone scammers

Police, the Communications Commission and Manx Telecom have moved to prevent phone scam fraudsters from targeting Island residents.

It's working closely to provide additional safeguards to protect the public.

The Island's incumbent telecoms company has made technical changes to its fixed-line network.

The end of call timer has now been reduced to just two seconds, which means after the phone is put down, the line will close almost immediately.

This makes it hard for fraudsters to intercept subsequent calls from the same line, as customers proceed to call their banks to confirm the validity of claims made by criminals.

Anyone who thinks that they have fallen victim to a phone scam should report it to the police.
