20 year old Ben Kelly produces Gold at Bisley in the Great British Junior International match

20 year old Ben Kelly, the Islands junior prone shooter, travelled directly from the Commonwealth Games in Scotland to Bisley, Surrey, to compete in the Great British Junior Grand Prix International match and although he may have been a little disappointed with his result in Scotland, he had tremendous success on the 50 metre range at Bisley, taking the win from a field of 31. It appears that the windy conditions at Carnoustie, gave Kelly the impetuous for his success on the infamous Cooper Range. Ben’s decimal score, which is now the normal method of scoring all International events, amounted to 610.4. Kelly’s nearest rival Jacobus Booyens, was .8 in arrears on 609.6 with bronze going to Mark Goater who posted 609.5. Kelly’s series scores were as follows:- 95.5, 103.3, 102.6, 104.6, 101.7, 102.7 = 610.4. This is a fabulous result for the Isle of Man Sports recipient, congratulations from the Isle of Man Shooting Club and the Manx shooting fraternity.

Creevy hits 591 x 600 on his return from Glasgow

On his return from his eighth Commonwealth Games, Harry Creevy produced an excellent result in round 5 of the Osborn Carpets second 600 on Monday evening under perfect weather conditions. Range Officer Brian Fozard delayed the start of the evening’s matches to allow the brilliant sunshine to disappear behind Slieau Whallian and the half hour delay allowed the depleted entry of 14 shooters an equal chance of the incredibly still conditions. Andy Potter, who has been shooting extremely well of late, claimed second slot even though he had two low scores within his series during the match, but still produced a “full house” along with two of the same from Creevy, the only 100’s during the match. Full results were:-

1 – Harry Creevy         100, 99, 98, 96, 98, 100 = 591 x 600

2 – Andy Potter           97, 98, 95, 100, 96, 98 = 584

Potter continues his terrific results in the August Handicap match

Andy Potter has been producing some excellent scores over the recent weeks and the August Handicap match was no exception on Sunday morning when he posted a new decimal personal best score of 619.00 on the electronic Sius targets! Conditions were near perfect although there was at times, a tricky wind producing the odd wild shot, however, Potter appears to have mastered the conditions as none of his series scores dipped below 97. His gun score of 589 x 600 proved to be too good for second placed shooter, John Wood to match posting a creditable 579. Full results were:-

1 – Andy Potter           97, 99, 99, 98, 98, 98 = 589 + 15 h/c = 604

2 – John Wood            96, 97, 96, 95, 98, 97 = 579 + 22 = 601

3 – Tracey Skelton      98, 95, 95, 95, 95, 96 = 574 + 19 = 593

4 – Bill Jones               94, 96, 95, 97, 97, 93 = 572 + 23 = 595

5 – Suzanne McKnight 93, 94, 95, 96, 90, 95 = 563 + 26 = 589

6 – Ashley Gardner     94, 96, 90, 94, 90, 95 = 559 + 24 = 583

7 – Perryn Callister     90, 78, 95, 94, 95, 94 = 546 + 31 = 577

8 – James Ogilvy (J)    85, 90, 85, 91, 79, 90 = 520 + 50 = 570

James was shooting for the first time in a match and credit must be given with his score having only been using his rifle for less than 2 weeks.
