Making Douglas Railway Station commercially viable and more usable is central to its future preservation.
The Department of Infrastructure has applied for planning permission for refurbishment work and alterations as the building is showing signs of settlement and fatigue.
Among the changes would be the creation of an internal retail area - possibly a newsagent - to sit alongside the restaurant which would be moved to a new first floor level.
Director of estates Rodney Christopher says if the income potential is increased it will contribute towards future maintenance costs:
