Numbers of Island patients having weight loss operations are level with the UK.
People are sent for four bariatric surgeries each year, similar per head of population to England, where demand is considered to be high.
To go private, the NHS says gastric banding costs between £5,000 and £8,000 and gastric bypass surgery can cost up to £15,000.
The Director of Public Health says it's for people who have a body mass index of 35 or above, and those with type-two diabetes or high blood pressure.
