Mark Cavendish has seen his dream of winning the opening stage of the Tour de France shattered following a heavy crash.
The Manxman came off his bike just 300 metres from the finish line, leaving German Marcel Kittel free to sprint home for the win.
It was clear from his reaction that he had seriously hurt his shoulder, with commentators and online reports saying he may have suffered a broken collarbone.
It’s currently unclear whether or not he will be able to continue the tour with the riders back in the saddle tomorrow.
