Budget cuts signal end of free smoke alarms

Smoke detectors will no longer be available free of charge after cutbacks within the Fire and Rescue Service.
In light of continuing budget challenges the service says it cannot bear the costs of supplying the units if it is to continue providing the current level of emergency response.
The service is warning that this is just one area of cuts that will be made in the coming months.
