Protect yourself in the countryside says DEFA

Wed, 14 May 2014

People exploring the Island's countryside have been urged to take precautions or risk contracting a potentially deadly illness.

The warning comes after four children in Lancashire, who attended a live lambing event, contracted E.coli.

Children under five are most vulnerable to E.coli and most likely to be seriously ill if infected.

It only takes a small amount of bacteria to cause the infection

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is urging parents to ensure they wash their children's hands thoroughly after they've touched any farm animals.
