First aiders urged to check defibrillators for faulty models

Thu, 08 May 2014

First aiders are being asked to check defibrillators in schools and sports clubs on the Island due to a fault with some models.

It follows a warning from Heartsine Technologies Ltd which is recalling its Samaritan PAD 500P defibrillator.

The company says it could give out potentially incorrect advice to people using it to give CPR to someone having heart problems.

A software fault means it may incorrectly advise the user to push slower during CPR when in fact the CPR rate is at an acceptable level.

People or organisations which have the machinery are asked to contact the manufacturer.
