Dog owners could be charged in future if their dog goes missing and has to be returned to them.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is looking at introducing a charge as part of changes to the dog warden service.
The current dog warden’s contract came to and end at the end of last month – with the department planning to use its own pest control officers to carry out the work.
It says for the time being it will continue to use the warden out of hours and to provide overnight kennelling.
Minister Phil Gawne says up to £20,000 could be saved if this method is implemented:
