Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson says the recent budget has presented his department with more tough decisions to make in the year ahead.
Job cuts will be made to bring down the wage bill, although it's hoped this can be achieved mostly through ‘natural wastage’, with staff either retiring or moving on.
The threat to front line services continues to loom, with the Minister saying he can’t ensure working practices won’t need to be made more cost effective.
He says although it is safe for another year the future of neighbourhood policing remains in doubt:
