The Isle of Man Archery Club met on Sunday to shoot a Fita 18 as part of the Club’s Handicap League. The Fita consists of 60 arrows shot at a distance of 18m. The scratch scores are then adjusted by handicap so that archers of all ages, bow types and gender can compete on an equal footing.
As far as scratch scores went, Kirsten George shot the highest Compound score of the day and Barbara Harris the highest Recurve. In the private tussle between the male Compound archers, Pete Mumford took the win. The fight for second place was a close run thing between Colin Moore and Dave Moore. It was neck and neck until Colin had an unexpected miss with the 42nd arrow of the round. Dave was 9 points clear going into the final six arrows when he too suffered a miss, which allowed Colin to snatch second by just 2 points.
Bradley Layton elected to shoot a Double Fita round and in doing so set a new Junior Gents Club Record of 114 897 16.
James Hill, shooting for only the second time on a Sunday, shot a Portsmouth round and added a whopping 115 points to his personal best score.
Toby Young, shooting the Fita 18 for the first time, took the overall win after the handicap was applied. Charlotte Harris returning to form after a long illness took second and Colin Moore came third.
