Rifle Shooting - The Islands British Champion, Glover and World Champion, Creevy qualify for the final round of the British Short Range Championship, News of The World Cup.

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

80 competitors are listed on the result sheet of the BSR Championship, News of the World Cup. The listed names have completed the postal section of the match and all scores above 296 x 300 qualify for the final match which is held at the home of British shooting, Bisley Range in Surrey. Rachel Glover, York based Manx lass and British Prone Champion, along with local publican and 300 metre World Champion, Harry Creevy, both scored identical scores of 297 x 300 and therefore will compete in the finals at Bisley. Glover was shooting under her home club, Easingwold and Creevy, under Laxey Rifle Club. The qualifying round was headed by well-known and regular Easter Shoot competitor, Mark Szymankiewicz who dropped just a single shot recording 299 x 300. Best wishes to both Rachel and Harry for the final round and hopefully, the trophy will return to the custody of a Manx shooter once again.

Skelton leads the G Jones Memorial Trophy (IoMRA C Class)
Barry Jones has forwarded the ‘C’ League monthly results and these show that the competition is proving to be a very tight league. After what proved to be a disastrous January card, the previous leader, Dave Humphrey finds himself dropped to eighth position, an unfortunate and thankfully rare situation when his error was a missing a target completely, losing 10 points in one shot. Jess Clague heads the Under 21 League
Cossacks Jess Clague continues to lead the under 21 League this month by a substantial margin. The northern teenager has had a consistent string of results except for one card where she dropped 7 points which is very unusual for this talented shooter. Fifteen year old Illiam Christian holds onto second position with Fergus Coulter, a team mate of Clague in third.  Again, I will list the results in monthly order.
1 – Clague (CSSKS)          (Nov) 97, 99, (Dec) 98, 93, (Jan) 99, 99 = 585

In the junior section of the NSRA County League, the Island 4 man team are progressing very well and round 4 results show how tight the league has become. In equal position with 3 wins and 1 defeat each and identical aggregate scores of 1521 x 1600 after round 4, are Oxfordshire Rifle Association and the Isle of Man Rifle Association. Ironically, round 4 paired these two rivals and Oxford managed a 2 shot win. The Island scores were: - Ashley Gardner     99,
