Abolishing the Legislative Council would cause ‘major upheaval’ at a time when government is already stretched.
That’s the view of Chief Minister Allan Bell who was one of the MHKs who this week refused to support a motion to get rid of MLCs.
The idea was brought forward by Rushen MHK Phil Gawne who said it was a genuine attempt to create a better and fairer system.
However his plans failed with 13 votes against and only nine in support.
