The IoM Archery Club met on Sunday to shoot a Portsmouth round as part of the Club’s Scratch League. There was a good turnout, including junior Joseph Reany who was competing for the first time.
Aalin George, fresh from her World Cup victory, was in unstoppable form and took first place in the Ladies Compound. It was a close run thing for second place with Sarah Rigby just edging out Kirsten George by two points.
The Gent’s Compound was a head to head match between Pete Mumford and Dave Moore. It was all square after the first dozen but Mumford began to stamp his authority on the match and finished just two points short of his personal best to take a comfortable win.
The Ladies Recurve was a face-off between Karen Lott and Barbara Harris. Lott started well in spite of having minor surgery that morning and had a lead of eleven points by the end of the first dozen. Harris found some form in the second dozen and began to eat into Lott’s lead. By the end of the fourth dozen Harris had edged ahead by one point. Karen, who was using new, heavier limbs, began to tire and lost form finishing eighteen points behind Barbara.
The Gent’s Recurve saw another easy victory for Tony Hartley. Rhys Moore who is still breaking in his new bow recorded two misses but still finished comfortably in second. Adrien Breed put in a season’s best score but was pushed out of third place by Danny Cowin who shot better than he has done for weeks.
The Juniors shot well this week, with Jack Tyrer adding a terrific twenty-one points to his pb. Josh Trafford shot consistently to take the win and novice Joseph Reany put in a respectable score of 286.
Billy Lightfoot shot a Bray I and added eighty points to his pb for the round.
