Mixed Leagues

League 1

Citywing Vikings A 13 Celton Fencibles A 6

With just two games separating them at the bottom of the league both teams were eager to put points on the board.  Vikings started off well at second mens with Steve Allen and Mark Falconer getting the better of Joe Burrows and Ciaran Drew 21/15 21/17.  At second womens Emma Nicholson and Charlotte Dougherty for Vikings  took the first game 21/18 against Jodie Green and Phillipa Li before the Fencibles pair fought back to win 21/15 21/8.  First mens saw Matthew Nicholson and Kevin Harding take the first game 21/18 against Fencibles’ Andy Fairhurst and Ian Hemensley and then they raced away to a 18/4 lead in the second game before Fairhurst and Hemensley started a spirited fight back but the Vikings pair won 21/15. Fencibles first women Alex Bell and Kim Moore took the first game 21/18 against Sam & Yvonne Irvine. The second game was very tight with the Vikings pair edging it 25/23.  With their increased confidence the Irvines won the decider 21/13.  Vikings won three of the mixed courtesy of Falconer and Dougherty, Allen and Emma Nicholson and Harding and Yvonne Irvine. Fairhurst and Bell won for Fencibles to give Vikings  a 13/6 win.  SN

League 2

Sulby Glen Sulby 6 RL360 Rushen A 14

Duncan Lawrie Selborne B 14 Tynwald Celts A 4

Selborne  appear to have ended any relegation fears with this resounding win. At second mens, Selborne's reserve Chris Ewan and Ben Watterson took the honours 21/15, 21/15 over Tynwald Celts' reserve Adrian Slater and Dave Wilson. Second womens was long and hard fought before Tynwald Celts  pair Heather Clague and Charmian McMorris shaded it 25/23, 19/21, 21/19 against Anita Griffiths and Felicia Gawne. Alan Ferguson and Paul Griffiths of Selborne beat Mark Callow and Tom Long 21/16, 21/14, while first womens was another three gamer, won 16/21, 21/9, 21/19 by Tynwald Celts mum and daughter pair Fiona and Bethany Callow against Julie McLean and Susie Stewart. All the mixed went to Selborne - closest Paul Griffiths and McLean 21/5, 21/19 against Long and Clague at second, and Ferguson and Stewart 21/11, 21/17 versus Mark and Fiona Callow. League 5

RL360 Rushen C 2 Citywing Vikings C 14

League 6

Kella Farms Sulby 14 PWC Castletown/Abbey C 3

Sulby did their title ambitions no harm at all when they beat one of their nearest rivals 14/3.- but this after  Castletown Abbey gifted six games at the start of the match as they were only able to field two out of the four team women required. Sulby  nevertheless dominated all matches  except  first mens  where Patrick Couper Woods  and Aiden McMahon could not take full advantage of their home court, losing 18/21 16/21 to  Castletown/Abbey’s Adam Cowin and Joe Callaghan. Sulby will now be eagerly awaiting  the next key title race result from the Castletown/Abbey v  Michael  match on the 4th February 2014.

Men’s Leagues

League 2

RL360 Rushen A 235 Celton Fencibles A 202

PWC Castletown/Abbey A 247 Microgaming Marown B 176

Castletown/Abbey  maintain their firm grip on men's league two with another convincing win against Marown.  There seemed little way back for Marown after the first two games, as Castletown/Abbey had already opened the required thirty point lead with Fingal Watterson and Chris Gregory beating Darren Richards and Jim Clucas 21/12 21/18 and Baillie Watterson and Colin Kelly winning 21/6 21/9 against Campbell Guy and Paul Coppell. The remaining matches were closer. Marown's Coppell paired with Richards and then  Clucas snatching two ends in close games against Kelly and Fingal Watterson and Kelly and Gregory, 19/21 21/14 and 21/13 18/21 respectively. This result leaves PWC Castletown/Abbey on the verge of promotion into league 1, with only  Rushen  able to prevent them.  Marown  are now fighting Rushen for second place as they cannot overtake the current leaders, with Fencibles looking likely relegation candidates.
