Scallop fishermen are being granted a two week pass to fish for the sought after shellfish in Ramsey Bay.
The trawlers can operate a small stretch in the fisheries management zone of the Ramsey Marine Nature Reserve.
The area has been closed to dredging since 2009 but recent surveys found good quantities - indicating the fishery has recovered well.
Peter Duncan is the senior marine biodiversity officer - he says the two week period will allow both the fisherman a lucrative catch and more invaluable studies to take place:
