Archery Report

Wed, 04 Dec 2013

The IoM Archery Club Met on Sunday to shoot a Portsmouth round as part of the Club’s Handicap League. Fifteen archers turned up over the course of the day.  Among them Josh Trafford was looking to build upon the excellent personal best score he set the previous week and Danny Cowin was breaking in a new set of heavier limbs on his bow.

The highest scratch score for Compound came from Kirsten George, while Tony Hartley high scored for the Recurves. Whilst the standard of the Portsmouth round was generally high, only two archers managed to record new personal best scores: Josh Trafford and Danny Cowin. Josh added 17 points to his pb to break the 500 barrier for the first time. After his score was adjusted by handicap he secured the win for the second week in a row.

Danny, whose new limbs were only set up during Thursday’s Club Night, had an extra 6 pounds of weight to draw and was starting to feel it by the end of the day. However he added 10 points to his pb which after adjustment put him into joint second place.

The archers who stayed on into the afternoon session elected to shoot a Fita 3 Spot to get some practice in ahead of the UK National Championships in Coventry on the 8th of December. Of those shooting, Karen Lott stood out as the only archer to set a new personal best. Karen added 21 points to her previous best to break the 500 barrier for the first time and looks to be in excellent shape for the UK Championships.
