Gemma Kermode has been off the Island recently, competing at the Surrey Airgun Championships at Bisley, where she produced not only a minimum consideration score for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but also a personnel best score for an off the Island meet. Gemma has recorded a higher result in local competitions, but producing a 390 x 400 off the Island over the weekend, is a major achievement. Kermode was competing in two events and in event 1 she recorded 96, 97, 95, 99 = 387 x 400 – just a single point away from a MCS however in event 2 Gemma produced 96, 100, 96, 98 = 390 x 400 adding yet another MCS to her ever growing CV. This result placed a delighted Gemma in sixth position overall and as this is her final 2013 competition, her air rifle is now in the hands of the supplier for a full service ready for training in earnest early in 2014. It is interesting to note that Gemma has contested many major competitions over the past year and has qualified for every final she has entered – it is said that consistency is the key to success and it is obvious this young lady is proving that this is true.
