Archery Report

Tue, 26 Nov 2013

The IoM Archery Club met with mixed fortunes on Sunday. The Seniors, with the exception of Joy Gough, shot rather below their best and it was the Juniors who recorded the day’s personal best scores. The Seniors shot a Fita 3 Spot and the Juniors shot a Portsmouth as part of their respective Handicap Leagues.

The Fita 3 Spot as the name suggests is a triple face target which scores from 10 to 6 only. The archer must put one arrow into each target face. If two arrows end up in the same target the lower of the two scores is recorded and the other arrow is registered as a miss. It is viewed as the hardest of the targets upon which to shoot.

As usual Sarah Rigby recorded the highest Compound score of the day and Tony Hartley the highest Recurve score. Neither of these scores were anywhere near their best and after the handicap was applied Sarah’s score was only good enough for third place, while Tony finished in seventh. Joy Gough was the only senior to shoot well on Sunday equalling the pb she set back in 2007. Both Rhys Moore and Bod Boland had the kind of shoot they would rather forget and finished well off the pace.

The Juniors were on better form, with Josh Trafford adding a superb 99 points to his personal best for the Portsmouth. Toby Young, shooting for the first time, posted an excellent score of 331. The George sisters shot a Double Portsmouth which saw both girls record personal best scores for the round.
