League 3

CuPlas St Ninians B 11   Duncan Lawrie Selborne B 6

Citywing Vikings B 16  Tynwald Celts A 2

Vikings picked up another important result when they took on Tynwald Celts at their new home venue of Bemahague School. The level doubles all went the way of Vikings in straight sets, giving Vikings a commanding eight point lead going into the mixed ties. Fourth mixed saw super subs Derek Gray & Christina Buck of Vikings beating John Dawson and Charmian McMorris 18/21 21/17 21/10 in a close fought three games. Third and second mixed then went Vikings way in straight sets. First mixed saw another closely matched tie with Vikings Sam Mills and Denise Foxton coming through to beat Mark and Fiona Callow 21/17 13/21 21/14 to complete a great result for the home side.

It's early days in League three, but already the strength in depth of the Vikings and St Ninians club squads are starting to tell. The next match for Vikings will see them take on St Ninians - both teams will be keen to take an early advantage. MF

League 4

Magee & Co Castletown/Abbey B  14  Microgaming Marown C 5

The wind may have been too strong outside, but there were fireworks at Castle Rushen sports hall as Castletown Abbey dominated Marown  picking up fourteen of the nineteen games played. The closest battles came in the mixed with second and third both going to three and both being won by the Castletown/Abbey pairs.  At third mixed Stu Lyon and Hayley O’Meara beat Paul Coppell and Jess Lloyd 19/21 21/13 21/18. At second it was Graham Coffey and Lisa Watterson who beat Chris O’Hanlon and Sue Keown 15/21 21/19 21/15. The first mixed produced a nail-biting finale which ended up going to Marown’s Adam Pyatt Coppell and Ashleigh Keown against Colin Kelly and Pim Charoenchai in two 21/18, 21/18 NT

League 5

Royal London 360 Rushen C 1 Ayre Mowers Sulby 16

Tynwald Celts B 3 Citywing Vikings C 15

Second men’s saw a good game with plenty of exciting rallies with Jamie Joughin and Neil Cartwright winning 21/14 21/15 for Vikings.  Second womens saw some lovely shots played by all players. Tynwald Celts junior player Bryony Ansell played very well in her first match with Isabel Barrie pushing Yvonne Falconer and Melissa McKnight all the way in the first game losing 16/21 before the Vikings pair won the second game 21/11.  First mens was one of the closest matches of the night which was an exciting match with Tynwald Celts pairing of Ray Kelly and John Dawson taking the first game 21/15 before Vikings players Matthew Bruce and Roy McLean took the second game 21/18. The third game was won by Tynwald Celts 21/15.  The mixed all went the way of Vikings to leave the final score 15/3

League 2

Celton Fencibles A 206    Microgaming Marown B 236

PWC Castletown/Abbey A 250     Royal London 360 Rushen A 187

Castletown/Abbey team move three points clear at the top of men's league two after a solid win against a resilient Rushen team. The damage was done early on in the match as Chris Gregory and Fingal Watterson of Castletown/Abbey beat Richard Kerr and Neil Ronan 21/16 21/7. In the final match of the evening, Fingal and Baillie Watterson edged a tense finale against the always formidable opposition of Rushen’s Andy Bowers and Ronan 21/20 21/16. Fourth man Rob Mason, paired with Ronan and Kerr, snatched two close wins for Rushen against on form substitute Colin Kelly, but it was ultimately insufficient to stop an able Castletown/Abbey team who already have an eye on promotion. League 5

Citywing Vikings C  186   Celton Fencibles C 250

Duncan Lawrie Selborne D 242   CuPlas St Ninians C 191

This was an enjoyable match apparently enjoyed by all, with some good close games - a young St Ninians team against our older, however also not too 'experienced' men, as two - Ean Crellin and Pras Shantakumar were making their competitive debuts for Selborne and Paul Sugden was playing for only the second time.
