Everyone’s favourite target face, the Portsmouth, was the scratch round of the day on Sunday at the Isle of Man Archery Club shoot at Onchan. This round is 60 arrows shot at a 60cm target face scoring 10 down to 1 (with compound archers shooting at a vertical 3-spot scoring 10 to 6). The recurve gents division had the highest number of competitors on Sunday. True to form Tony Hartley came out top of the bunch with a score of 567 just one point below his pb. Second place this week and with a new pb went to Rob Lott who shot a great total of 520 (must be the new diet working), with third place going to Danny Cowin who shot 510 which equals the pb that he set last month. In the ladies recurve, Charlotte George continued her return to form with a high score of 575, whilst Karen Lott had one of those days you just want to forget with a total score of 480. The compound gents section was depleted this week with Billy Lightfoot away on holiday and Dave Moore away for work, but it was great to see the return to shooting of Colin Moore following his recent absence. This meant that Peter Mumford and Colin had a straight fight for first place with Peter coming out on top with a score of 572 to Colin’s 556. The compound ladies this week was a hotly contested competition for first place between the George sisters, with older sister Aalin winning on 582, closely followed by Kirsten on 578. Joy Gough took third place with a score of 570 which was a new pb.
The only junior shooting on Sunday was Jack Tyrer. Jack continues to improve week on week and set a new pb this week for the Portsmouth putting a huge 90 points on to his total for the round since he set his pb last month.
Next week the competition will be a Fita 18 Handicap, but with some archers travelling to compete in the Northern Counties Indoor Championships in Penrith, there will be a morning session only, meeting at 10am for a 10.30am start. There will be no shooting on Sunday afternoon.
