Businesses are being urged to hang up on cold callers.
The Office of Fair Trading says it’s had reports of people trying to sell advertising in publications saying it will support the emergency services or associated charities.
It says legitimate companies do exist but most are making false claims.
The Office advises not taking unsolicited calls when busy, not agreeing to something over the phone and not to be pressurised into services that you haven’t agreed to.
Cold calling issues will be raised in the House of Keys tomorrow – Middle MHK Howard Quayle will ask when legislation will be introduced to protect the public from this practice.
