Electronic cigarettes will not be allowed in the Island’s prison because of fears over health and security.
The Department of Home Affairs says it would be wrong to promote the use of the substitute cigarettes as they are not yet regulated.
It follows a request from Jurby from a prisoner who asked for the battery powered devices to be allowed.
There has been a total smoking ban in the prison since 2009.
Minister Juan Watterson says he understands it is difficult for prisoners but is sticking by his decision for the foreseeable:
