Island leading the way in kidney treatments

Fri, 06 Sep 2013

The Isle of Man is ‘ahead of the game’ when it comes to treating people with kidney problems.

That’s according to the Island’s dedicated renal consultant at Noble’s Hospital who says significant investment in the area is being made.

Last week NICE flagged up concerns that 12,000 lives could be saved in England if Acute Kidney Injury was properly identified and treated.

Dr Matthew Todd says work has been done to raise awareness of the problem amongst staff and put appropriate protocols in place.

The Department of Health has also recently opened a new satellite renal unit in Ramsey which is helping to improve the Island’s capacity to provide dialysis.
