Charlotte Atkinson gains scholarship from Plymouth College

Thu, 05 Sep 2013

Island swimmer Charlotte Atkinson has been successful in achieving both a swimming and academic scholarship from Plymouth College to study her 'A’ levels starting this month. Charlotte recently attained 6 A* grades, 4 A grades and a C in her GCSE examinations at Ballakermeen High School. She is also delighted to have received a Gubay Chase Your Dream Award, through IoM Sport, to assist in furthering her swimming career.

Charlotte will train with Plymouth Leander Swimming Club and be coached by Olympic Coach, Jon Rudd. The squad includes Ruta Meilutyte, the 16 year old Olympic and World Champion and double World Record holder, as well as other Olympians, international medallists and British record holders.

Charlotte won 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze medal at the Island Games in Bermuda this July, and now holds 3 Island Games record times. Her 50m Butterfly time of 27.73 places her No.1 in the UK Short-Course rankings for 16 year old girls.

During 2012 Charlotte set 69 new Island records, and she achieved Commonwealth Games consideration times in 12 different events on 43 occasions. She also qualified in 2 events for the British Gas Swimming Championships in June 2013, which were the World Championships selection trials.

Charlotte has been a member of Douglas Swimming Club since she was 7 years old, and she would like to thank everyone involved in swimming on the Island and all her friends and family for their support.
