The Isle of Man’s bid to be recognised by the United Nations as a world biosphere reserve is gaining support from the private sector.
The Island would become the first country in the world to gain such a status, putting it in the same league as Mount Kenya and Ayres Rock.
UNESCO status would provide global recognition of the Island’s ability to balance a modern and dynamic economy with a high-quality environment.
A formal submission will go before the UN in July next year with the application now supported heavily by companies like Microgaming.
Government says the endorsement would be worth a significant amount to the Manx economy but hasn’t released any estimates.
