In a further effort to save money the Department of Infrastructure has now scaled back its hedge cutting and weed spraying operations.
With regards to hedge cutting they are appealing to landowners to ensure they do not obstruct the highway, as it is technically their responsibility.
The DOI say they will still tend to areas that have been ignored to ensure basic highway safety.
Householders and businesses are being asked to remove weeds from outside their properties with local authorities charged with the task of keeping the towns and villages weed free.
