Tynwald will this month be asked to approve much needed expenditure for an extension at Ballakermeen High School.
The work would cost an estimated £3.2 million and has been deemed necessary as the school braces itself to take on increasing numbers of students staying on for higher education.
The extension would relieve the burden on the cramped sixth form block and dining room, creating an additional study area, four new classrooms and a tutorial room.
Extension plans have already gone on display to show local residents.
The work follows on from improvements made to Ramsey Grammar School, QE2 and St Ninian’s.
