Mark Cavendish has praised his Omega Pharma-Quickstep teammates after they helped him secure his 12th stage win at the Giro d’Italia yesterday.
After disappointment on the previous day the pressure was on for Cavendish to deliver in a stage that seemed tailor made for him.
His new team remained in control for much of the race allowing the Manxman to turn on the pace in the final 100 metres.
It was five years since Mark first made an impression in the Giro d’Italia, in the intervening years establishing himself as the biggest name in cycling.
He dedicated his win to Wouter Weylandt, the Belgian rider who died in a crash at the race two years ago.
