The government is temporarily relaxing the law on animal disposal after thousands of sheep and cattle died in the recent heavy snowfall.
Under normal circumstances it is illegal to bury dead livestock; however a temporary suspension of this regulation has been put in place to allow on-farm disposal, this will last until 28th April.
However it needs to be approved first and is only permitted in exceptional circumstances, for instance where access is impossible or collection poses a health and safety risk.
The Fallen Stock Service has had its work cut out for it in recent weeks, with a major upturn in collection requests.
