Minister anticipates some farmers will leave profession following 'atrocious year'

It’s been estimated that the recent snow and huge loss of livestock could cost the farming industry well over £1.7 million.

In the two weeks after the snow the Animal Waste Disposal team collected 5475 dead lambs and sheep and 331 cattle and calves.

It’s put a strain on Manx meat production as well as greatly diminishing what the farmers could hoped to have earned in the year.

DEFA Minister Phil Gawne says unfortunately he thinks it could lead to a number of people walking away from the profession:
