Frank discussions between Douglas Council and the government are set to continue as the two authorities debate how to put up rent.
The Council wants to implement a rent increase for all public sector property by 11.25 per cent – instead of bringing in the Department of Social Care’s new points system which would see tenants pay a 1.8 per cent increase.
Council Leader David Christian says he doesn’t agree that the department’s plan is an equitable way to calculate rents and wants to do things differently.
The two organisations say they will continue to work towards resolving their opposing views to arrive in a position in the best interests of the tenants of Douglas Council which isn’t in conflict with the department.
