The Organising Committee of the Special Olympics have taken the decision to re-name these games in tribute to local competitor Gareth Cowin, who died yesterday.
The World Winter Games have been re-named ‘Gareth’s Games’ in his memory.
25 year old Gareth passed away yesterday morning after battling a deadly virus he contracted upon arriving for the event in South Korea.
In a further tribute ribbons have been produced for athletes from all the competing countries to wear during the closing ceremony.
Whilst the team are very upset they’re going out to play the rest of their games for Gareth.
