Ratepayers in Malew will see a price hike this year thanks to rising waste disposal costs.
Rates are going up by three pence – a 1.9 per cent increase – which is equivalent to around £5 extra.
Commissioners say they are looking to reduce the cost of getting rid of waste following the removal of a £5 million government subsidy.
They’re looking at extending a 'bring bank' scheme and rescheduling the existing waste collection rounds.
The local authority say the rate in future years will depend on how successful they are in reducing the amount of rubbish taken to the incinerator this year.
