Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant after a new wave of hoax phone calls.
They’ve received a number of complaints from people who’ve been contacted by a company asking to confirm bank account details.
The caller - a foreign man who says he is calling from 'Safe Communications' – says £79 has been debited from the recipient’s bank to pay for a device that filters nuisance calls.
He then states that the goods are awaiting postage once the card and account details are confirmed.
Police say this is obviously a ploy to fraudulently obtain bank details and says under no circumstance should these be given out over the telephone.
Anyone who receives a call like this is asked to contact Police Headquarters.
